Racism and politics Sensitive
I'm still chuckling at Shame Jones' attempt to do a racism and how badly it's backfiring on him. As far as racisms go, it is (possibly quite appropriately) the weakest of weak sauce. Butter chicken is (famously) very mild, basically just chicken stewed in cream and coloured with turmeric. There is - NOTHING - scary about it. It's a very nice meal, but hot and/or spicy it ain't. If there was a literal tsunami of butter chicken on the horizon I'd be heading out to the beach with as many clean bowls, buckets and pots as I could find. A few years back there was an almost-chemist woo shop between my work and the closest car park. For a while, out in front of it were big displays of Super Good-For-You stuff: turmeric and apple cider vinegar. I figured out quickly that I could duplicate the (supposed) effects much more cheaply with a curry and a bottle of cider and get a decent meal as well as the Super Health Benefits. Tomorrow night is specials night at my local curry place and I might just vote with my feet. Might get a balti. Might get a bhuna. Might get a rogan josh. Might make a nod to my Scottish heritage and get a tikka masala. And hopefully none of Shame Jones' little shitbags will try to make trouble while normal people are queueing up for normal dinners. #Racism #NZPol #ButterChickenTsunami

"MPs are refusing to say if Christopher Luxon won the confidence motion with unanimous support from caucus." If it was unanimous, they'd say it was. What they aren't saying says more than what they are saying. What the margin was would be more interesting to know. #nzpol

BOOM! South Australia's power prices have plummeted as they near 100% renewables, proving to the world that relying on wind and solar with battery back-up is possible, more reliable and costs people less. THIS is how we avoid the next oil crisis. #EnergyRevolution #solar #renewables #australia #makeoilhistory #auspol #NZPol #NewZealand #iran https://www.newscientist.com/article/2514985-this-states-power-prices-are-plummeting-as-it-nears-100-renewables/?utm_source=nickofnz&utm_medium=nickofnz

You know it's going well when they trot out the "absolutely not" and are even being questioned on it in the first place. #nzpol

Of the lessons that can be drawn from Mamdani’s campaign and now Mayoralty, one of them is talking about (and delivering) the efficient, high-quality public services that well-run, well-resourced government can provide. We see time and time again that getting the “market” to deliver what the state should provide results in over-paying for substandard services. Or being unable to deliver anything at all — Auckland’s light rail and Kiwibuild being prime examples. The state can, and should, have the capacity to plan, deliver, and maintain the high-quality infrastructure and services that modern life demands. “Maintenance is always cheaper than repair, and one of the main differences between a business and a government is that a business's shareholders can starve maintenance budgets, cash out, and leave the collapsing firm behind them, while governments must think about the long term consequences of short-term thinking” H/t to @pluralistic@mamot.fr #nzpol https://pluralistic.net/2026/02/24/mamdani-thought/#public-excellence

Great to hear Chippy calling out the appalling racism being regularly expressed in the house by this #NZPol govt seemingly without disapproval from the equally complicit speaker Gerry Brownlee. https://youtu.be/0HXppJGjx3s

Yeah, but, what's a mere 900000 tonnes among friends? (as if you needed more evidence of how unserious this govt is about climate targets) 900,000-tonne miscalculation makes carbon target even tougher https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/585322/900-000-tonne-miscalculation-makes-carbon-target-even-tougher #NZPol #climateChange #FossilFools
