The Chambered Nautilus is one of the oldest surviving marine species on Earth, with a lineage that dates back more than 500 million years. Long before dinosaurs existed, these creatures were already drifting through ancient oceans, and remarkably, they have changed very little since then. Unlike octopuses or squids, the nautilus retains an external shell, divided into chambers that help control buoyancy. #Nautilus #DeepSea #MarineBiology #OceanScience #LivingFossil #OceanFacts #globalmuseum

A female Sonoran blue posed for the camera. This exquisite butterfly brings the the color of the sky to earth, complete with fiery orange sun spots. Bay Area lepidopterist Liam O’Brien calls their color “electric blue tinfoil.” "A lovely little insect" is how Holland described the Sonoran blue in his 1898 The Butterfly Book. @bethpratt #butterflies #globalmuseum #insects

These are the 'Witches’ Stairs' commonly found in old New England homes. It is believed that the design was thought to confuse or trap witches, preventing them from easily climbing the stairs due to the staggered pattern. @BiancoDavinci #witchcraft #globalmuseum #NewEngland #heritage
