A small Australian 2026 #flu update. 22APR2026 🦠It is *not* an early start to the 2026 season. That is a really nice change from several past years. In the ~12 days since my last update (10APR), detections have risen by 1,602. That's a daily rate of 134.

Of what #flu is around, most viruses are A(H3N2) with some Bs and a little A(H1N1). A reminder that last year started with A(H1N1) dominating and finished with A(H3N2) subclade K wrapping up 2025 and driving a big & unusual summer surge into this year. Not so long ago! There should be heaps of immunity

Australian #flu numbers over time. I've added the main 1 (or 2) dominant A or B subtypes to highlight their exchange over time. It's a busy figure. We've had 2-of-each-A-subtype-dominated years since #InfectionPause, with 2025 having both dominate at different times.
