And our last question this week: Q8. What did you see this week? Share a photo if you'd like. Cycling related or not is fine. Tell us about it! (Also, it is Day 24 of #30DaysOfBiking) #BikeNiteQ #BikeNite #BikeTooter #Cycling #MastoBikes cc @bikenite@fedigroups.social

@ascentale@sfba.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A8. Heard my first Cuckoo of Spring (landmark moment in the year) while out on the mountain bike in Thetford forest. Hard work on the sandy surfaces in places with a few treacherous little pine cones that act like ball bearings. I do like the art installation at the visitors centre that shows the layers of geology and human activity. This place has been lived in for a *long* time. #bikenite

@ascentale@sfba.social @meganL@mas.to @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5: When I tested my bike with the heavy wagon to the far grocery last week, I had two different people going "wow that's neat," one talking briefly about the ability to do cargo on bike and the other explicitly talking about how that'd sure save gas. I encouraged all of it. Also, I can't tell if it's the weather or the prices, but last week with early late-spring warm weather, bikes were _everywhere_. It did feel like more than even the usual spring bloom of bikes. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @Cyclist@mastodon.scot @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5. At a high level, the experience of traveling *in* the world rather than *through* the world is biggest benefit for me. I get to hear and see things that I would miss in a car. I get to engage with people I pass with “hello” and waves. In general, I get to be far more present and in the moment. These things bring me joy! Also, when I cycle to a brewery patio I can get home safely 😀🍻🚴‍♀️❤️ #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @elliek@zeroes.ca @bikenite@fedigroups.social A2 Me in my school uniform at around 10 years old in 1963. The bike had been painted light blue with random paint and a big brush by my dad. #bikenite

@bikenite@fedigroups.social @ascentale@sfba.social No, but my local bike shop requires that e-bike owners take their battery with them if they leave their bike for repairs. Insurance reasons due to fire risk. Probably overblown. #BikeNite a6

@ascentale@sfba.social @Brownian_motion@mastodon.scot @bikenite@fedigroups.social A5: I ran into a woman in... Othello? on 2 Line Opening Day who had a non-Brompton folding bike, folded up similarly but had way bigger wheels. She told me what it was but I forgot - I do remember the _titanium_ frame, though. Looked pretty sweet! #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @EndCashBail@mastodon.social @bikenite@fedigroups.social A6: A ride I was on recently went with KEXP for music and a bunch of us brought radios, with the idea we'd all be synced up all the time. Turns out that doesn't necessarily work as you'd expect if any of your radios are either HD receivers _or_ doing digital things internally, because they all add different degrees of lag! It wasn't too bad but it was definitely enough to notice. So make sure if you do this that everybody brings analogue radios. #BikeNite

@ascentale@sfba.social @uxmark@mstdn.ca @bikenite@fedigroups.social A1: I'm home in Sheffield, England. Animals - one day in Germany I encountered a racoon, which scared the sh*t out of me; I'd never seen one before and I didn't know they were native to Europe. It was standing on its rear legs on the track I was riding along. That same day I saw a fire salamander and a duck's head - just the head. #bikenite
