I think one of the key features of BBS, from a developer's point-of-view is — Graphics are in-band with text. I.e., the graphics are transmitted with the text (and aren't received or fetched outside of the text stream). #BBS #retroComputing #vintageComputing

Random #vintagecomputing question -- if you had a Windows 95 machine to reload, is there any (one) game you'd load up on a machine of that era? (have two machines found on teh curb, going to strip them down for parts and sell the motherboards/cards... but maybe will load something up on them just for grins)

With the renewed attention on the Apollo Guidance Computer, I'll share some photos from a presentation I gave a couple of years ago on software documentation, featuring its source code. The engineers who wrote the software that got astronauts onto the moon sure had a sense of whimsy! i realize that this only speaks to 0.1% of you, but some useful info for NeXTStation owners: the battery backup that shipped with the nextstation is a BR 2/3A type battery - a chub gherkin that costs about $7-12 USD and are not easy to find these days. thankfully i've discovered a modern direct swap equivalent: the CR123A. it is used in various types of LED flashlights. it outputs the same voltage. the only difference i noticed is that the CR123A is about 0.5mm longer due to slightly more protruding positive terminal. thankfully, the battery holder accepts it (it just puts more pressure on the holder's metal flexi-tab). the CR123A can be found for $1 each. #vintageApple #macintosh #next #retroComputing #vintageComputing
