I was really impressed with the train itself though. It's a nice size, a good balance of detail and size overall. Looks fabulous, especially with the lights on the end! #ModelRailway

No pictures because… frustration. I finished re-mapping all my DCC sensor boards and points and updated JMRI so that it has all the new references, and so the old references are deleted. I think I might have two or three point sensors back to front still, but I’ll work that out next time. After a very long and frustrating evening testing LocoNet cables for faults, and LocoNet boards for faults, and making new cables, and testing those, and going round in circles… I finally worked out that my LocoNet boards are picky about the order they physically appear on the network 😡 (the DCC command station has three network ports on it, they’re all in use, and two have multiple devices connected in an essentially random order). Yeah. Go figure. Who knows, there might be a reason. But I’m not thinking about it tonight. #ModelRailway #LocoNet

This afternoon I finally finished properly educating myself on the subject of DCC addressing with respect to sensors, and specifically how sensor boards work on LocoNet - and that block occupancy seniors occupy the same addressable space as, say, point feedback sensors. Now that probably seems obvious but what wasn’t obvious to me was how YaMoRC sensors get their LocoNet ID - just subtract 1 from the first address and then divide by 16 and add 1. Took a bit of experimentation but now I have six IDs for Digitrax boards and four for YaMoRC boards, with no overlapping addresses 🤦🏻 and space for growth (that I almost definitely don’t need). Now I’m just writing up documentation before I reconfigure JMRI. It’s a big step forward even though it doesn’t look like one. #ModelRailway #DCC #digitrax #progress

In a couple of hours I got all the fiddle yard wired up to power. Got the point motors to add, but running out of space on the bus to add any more break-in tags. Might need to extend the bus and turn it back on itself. You can get 4-way solenoid-and-decoder devices but I think I'd prefer the flexibility of 4 separate solenoid-decoder pairs. #ModelRailway

My ESU programmer arrived today. Held off ordering one for quite a while but having decided to standardise on ESU deciders it was only a matter of time. Yet another piece of kit with Windows only software, sigh. #ModelRailway #ESU

The "discussion" about model prices is so very tiring, but I can't resist pointing out that these cost a Packet. #ModelRailway

That's the fiddle yard laid and glued down. Join me* on some unspecified future date for a demonstration of upwards soldering as I tie 30+ dropper wires into the main bus without dripping solder in my eye. *it would be lovely to meet you in person, but if you think I'm going to broadcast this like some sort of "influencer", think again. #ModelRailway

This lunchtime I’ve spent some time working on incorporating hanging lights into the Metcalfe platform canopies. It’s going quite well so far. Taken my time to work out exactly how to get the lamps where I want. #ModelRailway #Metcalfe #PlatformCanopy #Lighting #OOScale

Last night I designed all the subframes for the middle platform and today, before the migraine hit, I finished printing them. I’m using a coach to check clearances. Bought from Alexandra Palace about three years ago I assumed it was a Hornby restaurant car because it was in a Hornby box. Turns out it’s a Bachmann, and the only thing wrong with it is a couple of floating passengers inside. Win! #ModelRailway #platforms #3DPrinting #Progress

Brainwave: until I get around to DCC/jmri control of all the layout, why not wire the corresponding pairs of points in a "through" fiddle yard ladder to the same switch, so that the switch becomes a route selector rather than crashing a train every time I forget to set the points at the other end of the yard? #ModelRailway

Been installing ground signals on the layout this lunchtime. 8mm hole in the baseboard, ground signal from DCC Concepts in a 3D printed mount drops in (snug fit), all I have to do is run a cable to the signalling control board and do a spot of simple (for now) programming. #ModelRailway #OOScale #Progress #DCCConcepts

I installed a couple more and I think this motor is too high for the tie bar, so I might excavate the foam underneath the motor and see if it works reliably if it's a foam-thickness lower. #ModelRailway
