Good work from Arizona Secretary of State, using federal laws to ground a suit to block the conversion of a warehouse in Surprise, AZ to an ICE camp. This article is detailed and informative re local people’s opposition to the camp, reluctance of local officials to work against it, and intelligence of the state AG’s legal strategy. https://azmirror.com/2026/04/24/arizona-ag-sues-trump-over-surprise-immigration-detention-warehouse/ #LawFedi

District Court judge permanently enjoins the “Kennedy Declaration,” voiding the regime’s effort to heavily curtail gender-affirming care. As always nowadays, we can’t count on higher federal courts to uphold this judgment. But no matter what, we have another example of a trial court judge showing what it is to do justice in the face of fascism. 1/ https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.ord.191371/gov.uscourts.ord.191371.93.0_1.pdf #LawFedi

A really interesting win at trial court for Hoosier Jews for Choice, a Jewish group that advocates for abortion access, which joined five anonymous women of multiple faiths in a lawsuit backed by the American Civil Liberties Union. Case is headed to Indiana Supreme Court. https://forward.com/news/816427/religious-freedom-jews-mike-pence-indiana-abortion-law/ #LawFedi

Meanwhile, the IRS has been in cahoots with ICE. Judge Kollar-Kottelly explains. “Of the 47,289 taxpayer addresses that the IRS disclosed to ICE through these two mutually exclusive matching processes, 90.3% (i.e., 42,695 addresses) were matched by TIN Matching, while the other 9.7% (i.e., 4,594 addresses) were matched by Address Matching. Id. ¶ 10.” … 1/2 #LawFedi https://www.courthousenews.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/kollar-kotelly-irs-violated-law-thousands-times-ice-data.pdf

Finally (!) finished reading the 170-page (!!) IEEPA/Trump tariffs case, Learning Resources v. Trump. Yes, I’m glad that the immediate result was the Supreme Court clearly invalidating a Trump effort to assert dictatorial power. But the opinions in the case as a group showcase the mediocrity of the Roberts Court as a whole. #LawFedi 1/

“[N]o statute can override the Constitution. Accordingly, troops deployed under the Insurrection Act may not violate individuals’ constitutional rights. They may not, for example, search a person’s home without a warrant. And while the Insurrection Act is an exception to the Posse Comitatus Act, it is not an exception to other federal laws that might apply to their conduct (for instance, the law criminalizing the presence of federal troops at polling places).” https://www.brennancenter.org/our-work/research-reports/insurrection-act-explained 1/ #LawFedi

The Wyoming State Supreme Court has struck down the state law explicitly banning abortion pills. https://www.yahoo.com/news/articles/abortion-stays-legal-wyoming-top-164916889.html The court held that the ban conflicts with the state constitutional provision protecting individual right to make healthcare decisions. Interestingly, that civil right was constitutionalized by Wyo in opposition to the ACA. #LawFedi
