Partial load out from this morning's ham radio event. Fully loaded first aid kit (my son's tactical backpack choice, I would have gone full neon), Weed whacker (unnecessary, there was a nice clearing for me to park), water (definitely handed a few out to the desperate walkers at the end...), jump box, duct tape. In the "auto" box a full kit for offroad ie strap, jumpers, tire repair kit, fuses, multimeter, zip ties... folding shovel, axe. In "health" the most important thing being toilet paper, lol. Also paper towels, etc. #preparedness #hamradio

RE: https://mastodon.social/@weezmgk/116474916025526804 Unplugged and replugged everything, USB sound card disappears and reappears as expected but USB Audio CODEC doesn't reappear in WSJT-Z. #hamradio Deleting and reinstalling usbaudio2.sys doesn't fix it. Soft restart doesn't restore the USB Audio CODEC. Hard power down & power up restores the USB Audio codec.

Off the beaten track. Almost had to rescue a race volunteer who did not know this road is 4WD only, lol. Volunteering for communications using ham radio. A woman out towards the end told me she didn't know it would be out in the wilderness, her daughter had abandoned here, and she was trying to keep up with the runner in front of her so she wouldn't be abandoned out in the middle of nowhere, lol. #hamradio

Tomorrow (Sunday, April 19, 2026) is the first MIT swap of the year. This is an electronics flea market/hamfest held at MIT inside of a parking garage every month during the non-winter months. It cost $6 to enter ($5 if you print out a PDF from their website.) lots of retro computing, Arduino, ham radio, general electronics, and associated fun stuff https://w1mx.mit.edu/flea-at-mit/ #electronics #cambridgema #mit #hamradio

Spent several hours today on Radio stuff, which was nice. I still can't quite get my whips to work as I expect them to, but I suspect maybe it has to do with using a Faraday cloth instead of radials. Something to look into. I made two QSOs on 20m band, which I think is OK considering I'm set up in between houses and the bands have been hot garbage this weekend... #HamRadio #AmateurRadio
