The subject of the October 2025 Temagami manhunt was being chased because he said he was "a perpetrator of genocide and a threat to civilization" after having purchased a semi-automatic and 180 rounds of ammunition. After capture, he was deemed to be suffering from paranoid psychosis and held under the Mental Health Act. He was former Canadian military.
Apparently unrelated, 4 young men, also former military, have been charged with terrorism after an apparent plot to forcibly seize cottages and land near Quebec City, in preparation for the zombie apocalypse.

Gregg Phillips, an election denier who co-produced rightwing propaganda "documentary" "2000 Mules," has been appointed Administrator of FEMA’s Office of Response and Recovery (ORR), according to Marisa Kabas of The Handbasket. Phillips has no experience in disaster management, but in his new position, will be responsible for enabling functions like search and rescue, debris removal and "everything that gets a community back up and running again," a FEMA staffer told Kabas.
