Before/After Photo 1: painted with wild clay decorating slips, unglazed, unfired. Photo 2: glazed and fired. The earth tones are clay slips (terra sigillata), the glossy aqua and white are glaze. #pottery #process #transformation #alchemy #ceramics

I know a woman who just retired and does a lot of interesting crafts - ceramics, sowing, book binding and gardening - and she's tired of Meta. I think she would be an interesting addition to the craft community on the fediverse - and for all others who like to see images of craft. What platform (Mastodon, Pixelfed) and especially instances specifically would be an appropriate place for her to join? #Craft #Ceramics #BookBinding #Sowing #newonfedi

Good morning my pottery and peace loving friends! I just opened my first kiln firing after a long break from working in clay. Here's a first look at one of my favorites from the firing. Porcelain can be a fussy (and expensive) clay to work with, but I love the translucence so much, it's worth all the extra effort! Wishing you all a great Sunday! #pottery #clay #ceramics #peace #coffee #kenucky #handmade #mastoArt

A fine example of a wally close in the Broomhill area of Glasgow. A wally close is a tiled a commununal stairwell a Glasgow tenement, with the word wally being a Scots word for anything made from ceramics or china. This can include wally dugs (china dogs), and wallies (or false teeth). This, in itself, is derived from an older meaning of anything fancy, splendid or highly decorative. #glasgow #broomhill #tenements #tiles #ceramics #tenementtiles #wallyclose
